Language Experts & Participating Organizations:
Student Cultural Organizations are welcome!
Past language experts have included students and faculty members in American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French, German, Hmong, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Navajo, Polish, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Taiwanese, Tagalog, Thai, Vietnamese, and more.
This collaboration involves the Department of World Languages and Literatures; American Sign Language (ASL) & Deaf Studies; the Office of International Programs and Global Engagement; the CCE Short-term Faculty-Led Study Program; Asian Studies; the Center for African Peace & Conflict Resolution; and Teacher Credential Programs.

Please sign up for at least one hour during which you can serve at the event. To do so, click the link provided below:

Event Day Instructions
1) Sign In: Arrive at the Welcome Desk and sign in. Check your name on the Language Expert Sign-Up sheet. If you don't see your name, write your full name under the language you teach. We will place water (and other refreshments) will be available. You are welcome to help yourself.
2) Language Table: After signing in, proceed to your designated language table. Each table will have a sign indicating which language is being taught there.
3) Attendance: Someone may visit your table to take attendance. Please stay for the entire duration of your signed-up time. If you need to step away, inform other language experts at your table.
Materials Provided:
We will provide you with a whiteboard, eraser, pen, and paper.
Task:
We will place "Language Learning Passport" on each table. Each participant need ONE Language Learning Passport.
Teach a couple of phrases/sentences that visitors would want to know. This year's One World Theme is “XXX.” (https://www.csus.edu/oneworld/)
Sign their passport when someone masters two phrases/sentences,
Encourage visitors to learn from multiple tables. They can earn a World Language Day pin and other prizes at the Prize Table.
Share your culture. Feel free to bring additional materials or wear national costumes. In the past, volunteers have brought flashcards and language games. You may also discuss cultural aspects.
Benefits of serving as a Language Expert are:
enhancing leadership skills
showcasing your language knowledge
connecting with others who share a passion for languages
gaining public recognition and visibility
accessing information on study abroad
possible extra credit
Departure/Reflective Comments:
When you leave, please inform the next language experts about how your session went. Additionally, post your reflections in the Discussion section (Language Expert) to receive a Certificate of Appreciation.

Welcome Table Task
Sign-Up Sheet: We will provide you with a Language Experts Sign-Up Sheet. When language experts arrive, first ask which language they teach. Then, ask for their name. If you find their name on the sheet, have them sign in next to it. If their name is not listed, instruct them to write down their full name under the appropriate language section. Also, inform them that they should enroll in the Canvas course 'World Languages Day' if they wish to receive a Certificate of Appreciation.
Visitor Interaction: Be prepared to explain the event's purpose, activities, and layout.
Recognition: Post a description of your setup tasks on the Discussion (Helper Section). You will receive a Letter of Recognition from the Department of World Languages and Literatures.
Prize Table Task (we will set up next to Welcome Desk)
Language Learning Passport: Review the Language Learning Passport to ensure the guest has learned phrases or sentences from the language tables. Provide the appropriate prize item accordingly.
Duration: Please stay for the entire duration of your signed-up time slot. If you need to step away for any reason, inform someone at the Welcome Table.
Recognition: Post this photograph and a description of your setup tasks on the Discussion (Helper Section). You will receive a Letter of Recognition from the Department of World Languages and Literatures.
Morning Set-up Crew
Sign-Up: Please sign up with ___.
Task: Assist with the setup of the event in the morning.
Documentation: During the setup, take a photograph to document your involvement.
Recognition: Post this photograph and a description of your setup tasks on the Discussion (Helper Section). You will receive a Letter of Recognition from the Department of World Languages and Literatures.
During Event Floaters
Sign-Up: Please sign up with ___.
Task: Go to each table and check if Language Expert is doing their task.
Documentation: During the take, take a photograph to document your contributions.
Recognition: Post this photograph along with a description of your activities in the Discussion (Helper Section). You will receive a thank-you letter from the Department of World Languages and Literatures.
Closing Crew
Sign-Up: Please sign up with ___.
Task: Assist with the cleanup of the event after it concludes.
Documentation: During the cleanup, take a photograph to document your contributions.
Recognition: Post this photograph along with a description of your cleanup activities in the Discussion (Helper Section). You will receive a thank-you letter from the Department of World Languages and Literatures.
