Dr. Diane M. Waryold (she/her/hers pronouns) is a Professor Emeritus and former Program Director in the Student Affairs Administration program at Appalachian State University. She retired in June after her 21th year of teaching at App State. Dr. Waryold prides herself in identifying as a first-generation college student and a native New Yorker. She was an accomplished student affairs administrator for 25+ years before moving into the faculty role. Prior to moving to App State, Dr. Waryold served as Executive Director of the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI) and Program Administrator for the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University. She is a founding and charter member of the Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA) - now the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and served as president in 1995. Dr. Waryold credits SACSA as a welcoming association where she got her start in service to the profession. She was awarded the Melvene Draheim Hardee Award from SACSA and considers this award to be a full circle professional moment and a pinnacle of her successful career. Dr. Waryold has presented programs, published, and consulted on campus student conduct, sexual misconduct, campus safety and policing, crisis management, and academic integrity throughout the country. She is an active Disaster Services volunteer for the American Red Cross. In her “free” time, she likes to spend time with family and friends and her pups. She is happiest enjoying the great outdoors (hiking, camping, cycling, kayaking, traveling etc).
