Sabaton is a power metal band from Falun, Sweden. As of 2022, they have released ten studio albums, including Carolus Rex, which was recorded in separate Swedish and English versions, certified gold in Poland[1] and platinum in Sweden with 40,000 album sales, making it the "most successful Swedish heavy metal album ever" according to the band.[2]

The previous effort from the band, The Art of War, was a great album overall but the concept album wore thin very quickly, and listening to the sun tzu quote in between each songs every time was quickly getting boring and I often ended up skipping them. But I don't like to have to skip any tracks on an album, except occasionally. The album contained some strong epic songs but it also contained some filler and too many mid tempo songs for my taste. What I like the most with Sabaton is the faster tracks, and while almost all their albums have plenty mid-tempo tracks, most of the time they are epic and powerful enough to keep me entertained and I had found that The Art of War was a tad lacking on that department. Its an album I rarely revisit while I often go back to Attero Dominatus for its sheer deflagration of power and epic factor. But to the things at hand now : Coat of Arms starts with an extremely catchy yet powerful song, named after the album. This is probably one of Sabaton's best song ever. Lyrically it counts a battle from Greece in the beginning of last century and that might help too, being a patriot, to hear such a bombastic chorus with words like "Glory of Hellas" or "Blood of King Leonidas". Nevereless the song flows perfectly and is fast and delivers from beginning to end. The album contains almost no boring moments and while there are still too many mid-tempos songs / moments for my taste, the overall album is stronger than The Art of War was. There are unbelievable songs behind the opener, like Screaming Eagles or White Death that tells the story of a sniper. These songs are out of this world and they are furiously fast, and my only gripe with Sabaton in general would be to not focus more on delivering that type of songs, but the band has the right to express their creativity and maybe they don't want to be typecast as a power speed metal band which they would be should all their repertoire sounded similar to these songs (think Dragonforce if you will). Nevertheless all songs on the album are great ones, cubical guitar riffs and awesome vocal melodies (especially during the epic choruses) as well as a very strong rhythm section all help to deliver a fantastic album overall. One I don't have to skip any tracks on, and one I can listen over and over again during the course of an entire week, sometimes 10-15 times in a row without getting bored !

This new offering from Sabaton is a fantastic album, and if you like the band already you will no doubt be very pleased with Coat of Arms. If you don't know them then this is a great album to discover this very talented band. I urge you to see them live if you can, in 2008 in Wacken they really blew our minds !!! What an energy on stage ! In closing I would say that while my favorite album remains Attero Dominatus, Coat of Arms easily takes a close second place and is a step in the right direction from The Art of War (which was still an excellent album mind you). One of the highlight of the year for me so far. Long live Sabaton and see you on the road !

Swedish power metal band Sabaton is preparing to write their new album, according to front-man Joakim Broden. In an interview with Czech Republic's Backstage TV, Broden said that the band is currently in the "planning phase" for the new album, and that they hope to start writing in the near future."We're always planning ahead," Broden said. "We're always thinking about what we want to do next. And right now, we're in the planning phase for the next album. I'm looking forward to having an easy summer, but then I'm looking forward to starting writing more music for the future. We don't have a release date yet. We don't work that hard on it, but it's gonna be good. Without any pressure, I'll drive over, and me and Chris [Rrland, guitar] will sit down, we'll have a few beers and collect all our ideas and write some music. It's a nice thing to do, actually."Broden also mentioned that the band is not sure yet about the theme of the new album, but that they are "always looking for inspiration.""We're always looking for new stories to tell," he added. "We're always looking for new things to write about. So, we'll see what happens."The band's last album, The War to End All Wars, was released in 2022 and was a commercial success, reaching number one on the Swedish album chart and number eight on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart. Before or since, no Sabaton album has been this perfect at everything the band have tried their hand at. The fact that it took almost ten years for its songs to be heard in arenas means some booking agents somewhere deserve a good court martial.

Since their debut album in 2005, SABATON have become a major force in heavy metal. With their tenth studio album "The War To End All Wars", the Swedes release their latest project on March 4. As on the previous album "The Great War" (2019), the band chronicles in eleven brand new songs the atrocities, wonders and events associated with World War I in the early 20th century. With fiery riffs, pounding drums and singer Joakim Brodn's distinctive baritone, each of the songs on "The War To End All Wars" highlights fates and stories from this historical episode, the courage and bravery of individuals, and both triumphs and tragedies.

In a new interview with FaceCulture, SABATON bassist and manager Pr Sundstrm confirmed that he and his bandmates have been writing material for the follow-up to 2022's "The War To End All Wars" album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "SABATON hasn't been so active touring since we ended the last tour in the spring. We have obviously been busy elsewhere, working on new music. And I'm very excited."

SABATON recently released the animated movie "The War To End All Wars", which tells the stories from the "The War To End All Wars" album. It begins with "Sarajevo", a song about the assassination of Austrian archduke Franz Ferdinand, which sparked World War I. It ends with "Versailles", about the 1918 Treaty Of Versailles that ended the war.

Joakim: "(...) we normally cover the world wars or more modern conflicts, but many fans asked us why we don't sing about our own history, because in modern times Sweden hasn't been in war much. The album spans from the early 1600 to the early 1700. It starts out with Gustav Adolphus II, who was seen as the protector of the Lutheran faith at that time, fighting against the holy roman empire. It goes on from his daughter, Queen Christina up to Carolus Rex, Charles XII who was a madman really. You could probably put him almost the same level as Adolf Hitler - he's only one notch below. He didn't drink alcohol, he didn't have anything to do with women, he left Stockholm when he was 17, something like that, and he returned in a casket twenty years later."[6]

Joakim: "In Sweden, the theme of the Swedish Empire has a "far-right" stain. Before, we didn't dare to do it, we weren't important and known enough band to sing about it. We were afraid that people would misunderstand us and think that we were extreme right wingers. And now we told ourselves that we have strong enough means to let people understand us well. All in all, it's funny, as soon as we announced the topic of our new album, the Swedish media (not only those dealing with the world of metal music) began to say that Sabaton are Nazis. We only write texts, we have nothing to do with it. My mother is from another country."[9]

Pr: "We are not good at history so we must do a lot of research. On the Carolus Rex album we had the help of a historian called Bengt Liljegren who is an expert on the subject Swedish Empire and Charles XII (Carolus Rex). Without him it would not have been possible."[13]

Joakim: "It wasn't planned from the start. For fun I sang a pre-production chorus in Swedish and when I played it for Pr, we liked it so much that we recorded the entire song in Swedish, which led to the whole album being recorded in two languages. And in the end we did that.

Joakim: The fact is that I started to sing a little bit in Swedish for fun. From that came the idea to do a bonus song, which later grew into a bonus album, which eventually became a full album.[14]

Pr: "(...) We initially planned to have some parts of a song sung in Swedish but later we made the decision to have the whole album in Swedish also since it sounded so great when Joakim sang in Swedish."[15]

Pr: "Me and Joakim had some ideas to make at least parts of songs in Swedish but later we thought it sounded so cool so we decided to have the whole album sung in Swedish too. After we recorded it we knew that there will be lots of people who will refuse to hear it in English after this."[16] e24fc04721
