Yes! Drop-ins are welcome for all classes. Please plan to arrive 15 mintes early to class to complete registration, sign the waiver, and submit payment before class begins. This helps us start on time and ensures everyone has a smooth check-in process.
Participants of all ages are welcome. However, minors must be supervised by a parent, guardian, or other responsible caregiver. We strongly encourage caregivers to participate in the same class as the minor to support their learning experience and help ensure a safe and positive environment for everyone.
Tips for the drummers are always appreciated and encouraged. The drummers are an essential part of the learning experience, providing the rhythms and energy that make these traditions come alive. Your contributions help support the artists, their livelihoods, and the continued success of the conference. If you are able, please consider bringing cash to show your appreciation for their talent, time, and dedication.
We strongly encourage participants to bring their own drum if they have one. A limited number of rental drums will be available for $5 per class, but availability is not guaranteed. Bringing your own drum helps ensure you have an instrument for class and allows us to accommodate more participants.
Yes. There is a changing room located inside the dance studio, as well as a private changing tent available for participants' use.
No, childcare will not be provided during the conference. We will have an outdoor tent area where children may play, but all children must remain under the direct supervision of their parent or caregiver at all times.
Please note that the venue is located near a busy intersection, and caregivers are solely responsible for the safety and supervision of their children. Due to limited space in the studio, children who are not participating in classes cannot be accommodated inside during conference activities. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all attendees.
Please look under the venue tab for directions.
We encourage participants to coordinate carpools through our Facebook group. Carpooling is highly encouraged, as parking at the venue is limited.
If you choose to drive, there is ample street parking available in the surrounding area. We appreciate everyone's help in reducing parking congestion.
Due to space limitations, classes are reserved for registered, paid participants only. We ask that friends, family members, and other guests do not attend classes as observers. Thank you for helping us maintain a comfortable learning environment for all participants and instructors.
Space for musicians is limited. If you are interested in playing for classes during the conference, we ask that you:
Participate in at least one drum class during the conference.
Contact us in advance by email or reach out directly to Manimou Camara to express your interest.
This conference is centered on supporting and elevating the African artists who are sharing their knowledge, culture, and expertise with our community. Limiting class accompaniment helps ensure that teaching opportunities and musician stipends remain focused on supporting the featured artists and their livelihoods. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
A Dundunba is a traditional West African dance and drum gathering known for its high energy, powerful rhythms, and strong sense of community. Originating in the Guinea-Mali region, Dundunba is often considered “the dance of the strong men", which historically were day-long feats of endurance by the strongest men of the village.
Our Dundunba is open to everyone—whether you're a seasoned dancer or beginner, or simply curious to experience the culture. A $20 entry fee requested to attend, which includes a plate of food and refreshment. Come join us for an evening of music, dance, and community!
