In 2018, The Missing Peace—the first independent progress study on Youth, Peace and Security—spotlighted the vital role of young people in peacebuilding and sustaining peace. It also identified the barriers they face in contributing to decision-making and peace processes.
Building on this foundation, Member States have called for a Second Independent Progress Study on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) under Action 20(c) of the Pact for the Future, to be completed by 2026.
This new study will capture how the global landscape has evolved since 2018 and offer evidence-based recommendations to strengthen youth inclusion in peace and security processes.
