The preconception and pregnancy periods are pivotal windows that shape an individual’s lifelong health. Prospective cohort studies provide a robust framework to investigate exposures before and during pregnancy and their impact on offspring health. These studies also enable longitudinal follow-up, offering valuable insights into the relationships between exposures and outcomes over time.
The Sri Lanka Mother and Newborn Growth (S-MaNGro) study is a nationwide perinatal cohort in Sri Lanka designed to explore the effects of maternal nutritional and psychosocial factors on neonatal outcomes, with a particular focus on birth weight. The findings from this study will provide a critical evidence base for the global scientific community, supporting the development of effective policies to reduce low birth weight deliveries in resource-limited settings.
