Graduate Teaching Assistant
Graduate Teaching Assistant
As a PhD student, I have had the opportunity to engage in various teaching and support roles for undergraduate courses. Here are the course descriptions and duties for the courses I have been involved in:
CVEN 340 (Structural Analysis) in Fall 2021:
Course Description: This course focuses on the principles and techniques of structural analysis, including determination of forces, stresses, and deformations in structures. Analysis of simple and continuous structures using classical and matrix methods. Introduction to structural design concepts. Topics covered include statically determinate and indeterminate structures, virtual work principles, influence lines, and matrix methods of structural analysis.
Duties:
Assisting students with experiments related to structural analysis
Grading assignments and providing constructive feedback
Proctoring exams to ensure a fair and secure testing environment
CVEN-324 (INTRO SOILS ENGR) in Spring 2022:
Course Description: Introduction to soil mechanics, principles of geotechnical engineering. Presentation of soil properties, behaviors, characteristics pertinent to engineering problems/designs, soil classification, compaction, consolidation, shear strength.
Duties:
Assisting students during lab-based experiments, helping them understand and perform soil tests
Grading lab reports and assignments
Soil grinding
MEMT 313 (Elementary Fluid Mechanics) in Fall 2022, Winter 2023, & Spring 2023:
Course Description: Properties of flids, fluid statics. Continuity, energy, and impulse-momentum equations. Steady flow in pipes and open channels. Fluid measurements. General fluid mechanics/hydraulics laboratory.
Duties:
Assisting students with conducting fluid mechanics experiments in the laboratory
Providing guidance and support during lab sessions to ensure proper understanding of concepts and techniques
Assisting in grading lab reports and assignments, evaluating students' understanding and application of fluid mechanics principles
In these teaching roles, I have been actively involved in assisting students with their experiments, grading their assignments, and proctoring exams. Additionally, for courses involving laboratory work, I have supported students during hands-on experiments, providing guidance and assistance as needed. This includes tasks such as soil grinding for lab tests in the case of CVEN-324. Through these responsibilities, I have not only contributed to the students' learning experience but also gained valuable insights into effective teaching methodologies and student engagement strategies.
