The World Bank

I am a Senior Economist at the World Bank's Development Research Group (DECRG). My research examines the underlying causes of gender inequalities in developing societies, and explores mechanisms that can bring about gender equity. I am an applied micro-economist with interests in the fields of development economics, economics of gender and the family, and political economy.

I received a PhD in Economics from Columbia University, an MA in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, and a BA (Honors) in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. I am also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Labor Economics (IZA).  Prior to joining the World Bank in 2020, I was an Associate Professor of Economics at Boston College (2013 - 2020).

I currently serve as a Board member for two research initiatives of the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development -- WEE-DiFine and WEE-Connect. Additionally, I am a member of the FP-Impact Consortium's Technical Advisory Group. I am also a regular contributor to the Development Impact blog.
