S-8 provided our cohort with a course called NCSI-100, taught by Dr. Akbay. This course was an overview of Science and Mathematics. It covered the fundamentals of chemistry, such as stoichiometry, balancing formulas, conversion factors, etc.
This course was designed to help prepare students for their college chemistry classes. In high school, students take a chemistry class. This course is similar as it covers similar topics and refreshes students understanding of these topics. I feel that this class has properly prepared me for my chemistry class this fall, as I have a stronger foundation of the basics of chemistry. It helped students think critically and as a team as it implemented group work and allowed us to work out problems by ourselves.
