This is Ryuto Yashiro's personal page. I am a postdoc researcher at the Osnabrück University and Freie Universität Berlin.
I have finished my PhD degree at Graduate School of Information, Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo.
My research focuses on understanding the neural representation underlying visual recognition and the temporal dynamics of perceptual decisions, using fMRI, EEG and machine learning models.
For more information on my current and past research, please see my research page and CV.
Aug, 2025. A new preprint of my PhD project - Probing the content of semantic representations in body-selective regions - is now online! We developed a data-driven approach focusing on object co-occurrence in natural scenes to investigate what forms semantic representations in body-selective regions. [link]
Aug, 2025. Poster presentation at CCN 2025. My first time to attend CCN, so happy to have a discussion with many attendees on my work! (Poster title: Neural representations of implied motion in body-selective regions revealed by caption-based encoding models)
April 1st, 2025 Moved to Germany and started working as a postdoc researcher at the Freie Universität Berlin (co-supervised by Prof. Tim C Kietzmann and Prof. Adrien Doerig).
March 24th, 2025. Conferred the PhD degree in the field of Information Science and Technology from the University of Tokyo!
Sep, 2024. Received overseas research fellowships offered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)!
Aug, 2024. A paper of my first PhD project has been published in Frontiers in Neuroscience. In this paper, we used orientation ensemble judgement tasks and EEG recordings to decode when orientation ensemble perception is formed in the brain. [link]
Aug, 2024. Finished a training course at National Institute for Physiological Sciences (NIPS). Learned how to analyze fMRI data using SPM.
May, 2024. Poster presentation at VSS 2024. (Poster title: Probing unexplored areas in high-dimensional fMRI voxel space using an encoding model and image synthesis)
Mar, 2024. Finished an internship program in NTT Human Informatics Laboratories. Had a good time deepening my knowledge on EEG decoding of image features and representational similarity analysis. (Theme: Basic study on EEG-based image synthesis)
Jan, 2024. Poster presentation at Vision Society of Japan. (Title: Exploring high-dimensional representations of object recognition using encoding models and image synthesis [first author] / Robust object recognition in recurrent neural networks with pruning [coauthor])
Dec, 2023. Invited talk in the doctoral symposium of Virtual Reality Educational Research Center at the University of Tokyo. This is my first time to give an invited talk. [link]
Sep, 2023. Preprint of my first PhD project is now available in bioRxiv! (Title: Decoding time-resolved neural representations of orientation ensemble perception)
May, 2023. Poster presentation at VSS 2023. (Poster title: Temporal dynamics of the visual representation of orientation ensemble perception)
Apr, 2023. Started working as a JSPS research fellow (DC2).
Jan, 2023. Poster presentation at Vision Society of Japan and received best presentation awards. (Poster title: Temporal dynamics of orientation ensemble perception uncovered by EEG)
