Huntsville and Chaffey Wards Paired
Did You Know?
If you're a voter in Huntsville and Chaffey Ward, you may notice something different in this year's municipal election.
New for the 2026 Municipal Election for the 2026-2030 term of council, the Huntsville Town Council will be elected as follows;
(1) Mayor Elected at-large
(3) Town and District Councillors Elected at-large
(2) Huntsville Ward and Chaffey Ward Councillors (Wards 1 and 2) NEW!
(2) Stisted Ward, Stephenson Ward and Port Sydney Ward Councillors (Wards 3, 4 and 5)
(1) Brunel Ward Councillor (Ward 6)
For the 2026 election, residents from both Huntsville and Chaffey wards will now vote together to elect two Town Ward Councillors.
This change reflects the growing population happening in Chaffey Ward, helping ensure that residents are better represented around the council table.
This concept is not new to Huntsville. Currently, residents of Stisted Ward, Stephenson Ward and Port Sydney Ward (wards 3, 4 and 5) elect 2 councillors to represent them around the council table.
This change does not mean that Huntsville and Chaffey wards have been dissolved.
Below is a snippet of the Question and Answer section of the "Composition of Municipal Council - Pairing of Huntsville and Chaffey Wards" Staff Report that was presented to council.
Q. Will Huntsville Ward and Chaffey Ward both dissolve and combine into one new Ward?
A. No. Both Wards remain as is; boundaries will remain as is. The Town of Huntsville will still have 6 Wards."
Q. What would the changes be for electors for the 2026 Municipal Election?
A. Instead of electors choosing one candidate in Huntsville Ward and one candidate in Chaffey Ward, electors may choose up to two candidates for those running for the combined ward of Huntsville and Chaffey Ward Councillor.
