My name is Ryan Spencer. I grew up the son of a high school principal. Ever since I can remember I was around the school system. The high school hallways were my playground and the teachers were my idols. When I was in 4th grade I had the opportunity to help in the special education classroom. Hesitant at first, I slowly began to fall in love with helping those with disabilities. It was then that I decided that I wanted to be a special education teacher. All throughout my education I assisted those with special needs. I was a peer tutor every year in high school. Upon graduation, I spent two years in South America on a church mission. When I returned, I began studying special education with an emphasis in severe disabilities. I loved what I was studying and I loved what I was going to do. However, all of this changed my junior year of college. I was taking a class entitled "Legal Issues: Special Education". As I sat studying Brown v. the Board of Education, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Endrew F. v. Douglas County, I knew that there was more that I could do. Because of that class I have decided to attend law school in the fall of 2020 and specialize and practice education and disability law. I am excited to be a voice for those who have none, and to be an advocate for those who deserve so much.
