About
Bass Trombonist, educator, composer and arranger, Ryan Bisson has an intense passion and love for music. Born and raised in Connecticut he first realized this passion by playing in brass bands, community concert bands, and orchestras. His formal musical training came at UMass Amherst where he studied with Greg Spiridopoulos, and at Boston University where he studied with Gabe Rice. While living in Boston, Ryan began playing professionally with orchestras including the Albany Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. An award winning soloist and chamber musician, Ryan is always seeking out unique opportunities to showcase the bass trombone. While studying at Boston University, he played as a part of the Rhombus Trombone Quartet which was runner up in the 2015 American Trombone Workshop national quartet competition. Ryan has also performed as a part of the Trombones of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony. As a soloist, Ryan was the winner of the 2015 national solo competition at the American Trombone Workshop. He enjoys finding ways to stretch the bounds of the bass trombone as a solo instrument. He is constantly seeking out, and writing, new music to challenge his perceptions of the bass trombone. Ryan says a big thumbs up for the Bass Trombone!
When not playing trombone you can find Ryan at the rock climbing gym with his wife, Emily Bisson. If you miss him there, he may already be outside dangling off a cliff! His love for the nature and the creatures that live in our world heavily influence his compositions. For his album Awakening, Ryan began painting with watercolors. The cover of that album is a cloud study that he painted. An avid lover of all art, Ryan always makes it a priority to visit art museums. He loves his local museums and always finds a museum to visit when traveling.
