In the fall of 2021, 25 women got together with the expressed purpose of forming a new Republican Women’s club in the central Oklahoma area. After several meetings, we found volunteers to be officers, decided on a logo and a name, and had our first meeting in January of 2022.
A lot of leadership was evident in our new members: 11 women had been presidents of other RW clubs in Oklahoma, two women had been president of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women, and two women had served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Republican Women.
The Club has continued to grow since then. See Accomplishments for more history by year.
Speakers at general meetings included Senator James Lankford, Congresswoman Stephanie Bice, Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell, our city-wide County Commissioners, the County Appraiser, and several other county officials.
The year ended with over 50 Full members and 33 Associate members. A Member Appreciation Picnic was held on Labor Day to celebrate our success.
Two candidate forums were held for primary candidates in July and for run-off candidates in August. Both were well attended. We arranged for the Trump Trailer to come from Ft. Worth and invited all candidates for office in the OKC Metro to speak.
Since this was an election year, and thanks to an all-hands-on-deck effort by our fundraising committee and members, we were able to give $2,100 to candidates our very first year.
RWCOK members were hostesses for the OKFRW Red Day at the Capitol and volunteered to host the Spring OKFRW Board of Directors Meeting in Del City.
Members participated in several parades, including the Martin Luther King Parade in Oklahoma City, St. Patrick's Day Parade in Stockyards City, and the 4th of July Parade in Bethany.
Our Membership Brunch with guest speaker Christie Mullen, wife of Senator-to-be Markwayne Mullen, was very well attended in October. As a surprise to all of us, Markwayne accompanied his wife and stayed to visit with all our guests.
Another fun event was the Style Show highlighting candidates as models!
We celebrated our first year as the newest RW Club in Oklahoma - and our great victory in the 2022 election - with a very well attended Christmas Party at Quail Creek Country Club.
Our second year started off with a bang, with a new president and many new ideas. Our members voted to change our meeting day to Monday, and it was decided we would meet the 2nd Monday of the month.
We were asked to help at the reception for newly-elected Governor Kevin Stitt’s Inauguration. We also volunteered for the Grand Opening and other events at the GOP Hispanic Center.
Among our speakers were OK County Assessor Larry Stein, Edmond’s Mayoral candidates, Reed Downey, Jr., an expert on Oklahoma Schools; Alex Gray, former Assistant to the National Security Advisor; GOP Chairman A.J. Ferate, Senate Pro-Tempore Greg Treat, Supt. of Schools Ryan Walters, 5th District Chairman DeWayne McAnally, and OK Senator Adam Pugh.
At the OKFRW Convention, our club’s Member of the Year, Evelyn McCoy and Rising Star, Melodie Fulmer were honored.
The National Federation of Republican Women held their biennial Convention in Oklahoma City, and our club was awarded their highest honor – The Diamond Award!
Among our other volunteer activities, members participated in the Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build and the Symphony Show House.
Our Annual Membership Tea was held at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club. Over 50 guests were invited and we had a terrific time. The members were in charge of centerpieces, and they were outstanding!
Our 2nd Annual Christmas Party was again held at Quail Creek Country Club and we were honored to have newly-elected NFRW President Julie Harris as speaker. Among our guests were Incoming OKFRW President Kayla Blount, outgoing OKFRW President Lorie Legere and a last-minute surprise guest – Former OK Governor Mary Fallin!
Among our speakers to date were Trent England from the Oklahoma Council for Public Affairs; Estela Hernandez, Field Rep. for Sen. James Lankford; Brian Maughan, 2nd District County Commissioner; Todd Russ, OK State Treasurer; Kayla Blount, OKFRW President; and Suzanne Callihan, who gave us a terrifying look at the leftist organizations in Oklahoma. Two more Candidate Forums are planned for June and August.
By mid-year, we boasted 75 full members and 32 associates, making us the 3rd largest club in Oklahoma –after only 2-1/2 years as a club!
