Schedule
12:00-1:00: Place the plants you brought in the swap area.
1:00-1:05: swap begins! Take no more than 5 plants during the first 5 minutes, so everyone can get some plants.
1:05 until the plants are gone: take as many plants as you would like! This event moves very quickly. Best to arrive before 1pm.
What to bring:
· Please bring Virginia native plants only. If you’re not sure, check here: www.vaplantatlas.org. If you’re still not sure, please don’t bring them.
· We will be following the rules of the Virginia native plant swap Facebook group. No cultivars, nativars, hybrids. Straight species plants only.
· Please label all plants with the scientific/binomial/Latin name and a common name.
· Plants nicely potted are strongly preferred! Bare root plants or plants in pots with no dirt don’t survive as well.
· No pets, please!
FAQs:
Q: What if I don’t have any plants to bring?
A: Please come and take plants! If you don’t have any plants to bring, you can bring a bag of topsoil as a donation to the hosts. We (the hosts) pot up hundreds of plants to give away every year and can always use dirt. Also, we make plant ID tags out of old venetian blinds (metal or plastic). If you have old venetian blinds lying around, we’d love them! But don't feel obliged to bring anything.
Q: Can I bring seeds?
A: Yes! We don’t know what the demand will be for them, but feel free to bring seeds. Please place them in labeled, ready to go bags/envelopes.
Q: Who is invited?
A: Anyone can come. Free, no registration.
Q: Will I be trading plants with other people? Do I need to say what plants I’m looking for?
A: No. All plants will be grouped by species, and people can take what they want.
Many thanks to Welborne United Methodist Church for allowing us to use their parking lot!
They have a wonderful neighborhood food pantry. Donations to the pantry are always appreciated, and can be dropped off during the swap.
