DECEMBER 2ND, 2019
This year the weather was less than fun. Cold temperatures and rain moved all but the tree lighting itself, indoors at Borough Hall. We set up a table for our usual spread of popcorn and cranberries for kids of all ages to string into garlands for the tree outside.

NOVEMBER 16TH, 2019
It was a gorgeous day to plant trees! We met at Borough Hall and had coffee and muffins before putting on our gloves and getting to work. It is truly inspiring to see neighbors who have never met, get acquainted, share stories about Rutledge, and help one another beautify this community.
Rutledge is a treasure. We are so proud to be your Tree Commission!
SEPTEMBER 27TH, 2019
Celebrating fall harvest, apples, and the man, the myth, and the legend of Johnny Appleseed!
We had apple tasting, crafts, games, local Honey from our own Dave Barry, delicious apple baked goods, handmade wooden cutting boards, and of course TREES! Thank you to all the Rutledge residents that came out for a fun evening at Borough Hall!
APRIL 27TH, 2019
Coordinated by Heidi Sentivan, we donated 2 trees to the SRS playground! We planted 2 trees in residents' yards, and 5 evergreens by the basketball court at Triangle Park!
APRIL 20th, 2019
It's officially a tradition! We are happily a regular fixture at the Rutledge Easter Egg Hunt. Kids stopped by the table before the hunt began, to scoop dirt into little 'baskets' made from recycled egg cartons to plant and water a variety of flowers and fruits and veggies to take home.
MARCH 23RD, 2019
In preparation for the Annual Rutledge Easter Egg Hunt, and the start of the spring season at Triangle Park, the Shade Tree Commission and members of Borough Council spent the day raking, pruning, and clearing out the rain gardens and pruning the younger park trees. Members of the Rutledge Garden Club also contributed by planting flowers and bulbs.
NOVEMBER 17TH, 2018
It was cold, but very productive! We planted 3 trees in residents' yards, and one lovely new tree at Triangle Park!
JUNE 3RD, 2018
Though the Plant Swap itself was not our most well-attended, we were so fortunate to meet new neighbors with impressive horticultural backgrounds! There were many many donations for the Rutledge community garden spaces, and we helped get to work with the Rutledge Garden Club to put some plants in right at Borough Hall!
APRIL 21ST, 2018
The day could not have been more gorgeous. Everyone was in high spirits, embracing the lovely spring tree-planting weather! We beautified our little town with 3 more Redbud trees, and a Red Maple!
MARCH 31ST, 2018
Last year's craft was such a hit, we decided to once again host a flower-planting table at the annual Rutledge Easter Egg Hunt. Kids stopped by the table before the hunt began, to scoop dirt into little 'baskets' made from recycled egg cartons to plant and water sunflowers, nasturtiums, and marigolds to take home.

NOVEMBER 18TH, 2017
It may have been a cold and rainy day, but that didn't stop us or 8 determined Rutledge residents from planting trees! It was another successful event of neighbors helping neighbors. We are so proud to be a part of this phenomenal community.
OCTOBER 27TH, 2017
After discussing the idea of sourcing backyard trees for residents for many years, we finally made it happen this fall! Thanks to a VERY generous donation by Madelaine Liberi of E. Sylvan Avenue, the Shade Tree Commission purchased 10 trees and mulch for residents to plant anywhere in their yards. In less than a week, all but one tree was spoken for and planted! Thanks to all the amazing residents who took advantage of this awesome and affordable opportunity to plant trees!
MAY 21ST, 2017
Originally scheduled for May 13th, the Plant Swap was sadly rained out. Fortunately we were able to reschedule on the same day as the Rutledge Craft Fair on May 21st. It was a smaller turnout, but with far more browsing and exposure, thanks to the craft fair patrons! We hope to coordinate our dates with the Craft Fair again next year.
We also raffled off a rain barrel - The Torres-Zickler Family of Rutledge Avenue, won!
APRIL 22ND, 2017
Another Spring Planting success! We met at 218 E. Sylvan on Saturday April 22nd to fuel-up on coffee and donuts, hand out signs, trees, stakes, and mulch. Rain barely deterred these faithful Rutledge residents from getting to work; it may have been muddy, but we had a great time. Special thanks to all participant and volunteers!
We also helped Heidi Sentivan plant 6 ADDITIONAL TREES on school grounds at SRS. The project was part of an Eagle Scout initiative. Thanks Heidi!
APRIL 9TH 2017
This year the Shade Tree Commission hosted a flower-planting table at the annual Rutledge Easter Egg Hunt. Kids of all ages stopped by the table before the hunt began, to scoop dirt into little 'baskets' made from recycled egg cartons to plant and water sunflowers and nasturtiums to take home. As we all know that waiting is hard when you are waiting for fun, the flower table was a nice distraction!
MARCH 25TH, 2017
The rain gardens at Triangle Park were in serious need of some pruning and maintenance. It's a good thing Rutledge is full of eager young (and young at heart) volunteers! Kids and grown-ups alike arrived early and stayed late to bag debris, trim trees and bushes, pick up trash, and prepare grounds for future plantings. We even used a donated wood-chipper to recycle some of the trimmed materials into mulch!
We are so thankful for all of the volunteers who came out to help keep our wonderful little park looking great!
DECEMBER 5TH, 2016
This year, at Rutledge's annual Christmas Tree Lighting, the Shade Tree Commission hosted a popcorn and cranberry stringing table under a lighted tent outside Borough Hall. We were thrilled by the response from kids of all ages, and it proved to be a fun activity to accompany an already wonderful tradition in our town. Kids and parents strung garlands and helped decorate the community tree. Special thanks to Madelaine, Kay, and Ella Liberi for their help and decorations!

NOVEMBER 19TH, 2016 • FALL PLANTING
We are so incredibly proud of the residents who helped plant so many new trees in Rutledge this fall. We were lucky to have beautiful weather and spirits were high as neighbors helped one another dig, plant, water and stake their trees.
Special thanks to all of our volunteers! If you are walking around the neighborhood, be sure to check out the trees planted at the following addresses:
16 Linden, 112 Linden, 214 Linden, 124 President, 136 President, 210 President, 230 President, 106 Sylvan, 12 Rutledge, and one at Triangle Park!

MAY 14TH, 2016
We held our 2ND ANNUAL Plant Swap on Saturday, May 14th from 10am – 1pm on the front lawn of Borough Hall. We were lucky to have had great weather and a nice turnout considering there were tons of other things going on that morning! Just like last year, we had dozens of perennial and ornamental annual plants, fruits and veggies (a phenomenal selection of delicious varieties from Sue and Jack Borsch’s greenhouse!), houseplants, pots, and even trees to share. All for free! FREE! Thanks again for coming out! See you next year!
APRIL 23RD, 2016
We are proud to say that our Spring Planting was a great success! We met at 139 Linden on Saturday April 23rd (in the pouring rain) to hand out t-shirts, signs, trees, stakes, and mulch. 7 households participated in the digging and planting of 8 trees. Rain barely deterred these faithful Rutledge residents from getting to work. Special thanks to all participants!
Our Linden planters: Pat and Karl Eilinsfeld, Kathleen and Tyler Haskins, Joe and Dylan Healy, Suzanne Stewart, and Marlaina and Karl Knofler. From President Avenue: Marj and Issac Hatzell. From E. Sylvan Avenue: Madelaine and Jason Liberi, with the help of their kids Ella and Kay as well as their next door neighbors, Jenn, Connor, Logan, and Hailey Teachey! We also need to thank the amazing volunteers that came out to dig and plant and haul heavy things to help their neighbors get their trees ready to grow: Cathy Myers and her granddaughter, Riley, Brendan Harrigan (who valiantly volunteered to plant Kathleen and Tyler’s trees while they were away!) Scott, Owen, and Emily Rumble.
