I am a published and peer-reviewed professional translator specializing in the research and translation of Yiddish literature and poetry, particularly that of Eastern Europe. I am especially interested in older Yiddish, that published between 1860-1930.
My work includes Yiddish to English translations of Yiddish documents, yizkor (memorial) books, literature and poetry. I can translate any Yiddish material that is typed.
My latest publication is Jews Without Yellow Stars, the translation of Hersh Smolar's Yidn of gele lates. A detailed descripton of this book is found on my home page.
Currently, I am translating B. J. Bialstotzky's Binele, a hauntingly beautiful tale of a Jewish boy from a poor family, that lives in a poor village. Binele sets out on a quest to find the land fun eybikn yon-tev - the Land of Forever Holidays, where people are always smiling and happy, and not worn-down by the harshness of life as are his parents and neighbors.
I also do Yiddish to Spanish translations. I produce the initial translation draft, and then coordinate with a native Spanish speaker to ensure the final text is written in a cohesive, natural Spanish.
I am the proud grandmother of three beautiful granddaughters (all taller and smarter than I), and two amazing cats.
