Responsive Services Highlight
The school counselor collaborated with teachers and parents to form small groups based on student needs. After analyzing the needs assessment data, parents were contacted, consent forms were obtained, and 18 total small groups were conducted throughout the school year. Small groups lasted for 6 weeks, and the topics included: anxiety, family changes, self-control, organizational skills, self-regulation, anger, self-esteem, growth mindset, mindfulness, friendship and perfectionism. As a result of the small groups, students are better equipped with coping skills needed to support their academic, emotional and social growth.
Family Changes Small Group
During the Family Changes small group, the lap book pictured below was created with students. It provided a chance for students to discuss their families and previous/upcoming changes they might be going through. Inside the lapbook detailed different feelings and coping strategies.
