The term “Russian as a foreign language (РКИ)” began to be developed at the Scientific and Methodological Center of the Russian Language at Moscow State University in 1974. Later it was transformed into an independent Institute of the Russian language (Pushkin State Russian Language Institute) with the relevant scientific and educational units.
