W. Russell Threet is a pastor, professor, biblical counselor, author, and speaker committed to equipping the local church through faithful teaching and Christ-centered care.
He serves as the Senior Pastor of West Park Baptist Church in Ozark, Arkansas, and teaches in the area of biblical counseling at Forge Theological Seminary, where he is also the Dean of the Counseling Certificate Program. Russell is a certified biblical counselor with the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC), the Fellowship of Biblical Counselors (FBC), and a Commissioned Addictions Biblical Counselor with The Addiction Connection (TAC).
He regularly writes and speaks on topics such as biblical counseling, pastoral ministry, suffering, and the church’s role in welcoming individuals with autism. His books reflect a deep concern for applying the sufficiency of Scripture to real-life challenges within the church, family, and community.
Russell holds a Doctor of Practical Theology, a Master of Divinity, and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministries. He has also served as a hospital chaplain and continues to mentor men in ministry.
He and his wife Sarah live in Arkansas and have three sons. Their journey with one of their children being on the autism spectrum has shaped much of Russell’s heart for disability ministry in the local church. When not preaching, counseling, or teaching, Russell enjoys the outdoors, deer hunting, and coaching youth football.
Russell holds to the authority and sufficiency of Scripture and a Baptist ecclesiology. His ministry is grounded in a biblical perspective on the church, family, gender, and human dignity. His church holds to the BMA Doctrinal Statement and the New Hampshire Confession of Faith.
