Mayor for ALL - I will be a mayor for the people, by the people! It will be my priority to improve EVERY citizen’s quality of life in the entire city and not just focusing on special areas to gain votes. You will see improvements my entire four years, not just during election years.
Crime - Crime needs to be addressed immediately. We have a failing score card in this area. We have one of the highest death and crime rates in the country. It is imperative we turn this around. By placing quick response police stations throughout the city, we will reduce response times drastically. This will start in the higher crime areas, expanding as needed from those areas.
First Responders - I will always support my first responders. There will be no "quid pro quo" type situations moving forward. First responders, or any city employee, should not have to choose between their personal health decisions and their jobs serving their community and providing for their families when reasonable accommodations can be made to protect everyone's safety. They do not need additional stress, especially when we already have shortages in our police and fire departments.
Community Improvements – North Charleston has one of the highest tax rates in SC. It is time ALL communities benefit from these funds. When you ask for help from the city, the response you have been hearing is “there is no money”, but special projects always continue to get approved one after another. This will be a thing of the PAST. ALL communities will see funds to improve their neighborhoods.
Infrastructure- We must collectively come up with a plan to ease the traffic issues we face daily. Our city, county, and state must come together and devise solutions to ease the traffic concerns we are facing. We need to proactively plan and build for fifteen or more years into the future, not just be reactive for what we are dealing with now.
I-26 Corridor - The noise from the interstate has to be addressed. Thousands of our citizens are suffering daily from the excessive noise generated from the interstate. Noise abatement is a must for quality of life of our citizens.
Homeless Vets - As a veteran myself, this is a subject that hits home for me. I personally make it a priority to support local groups that work with our vets. Our vets have given and sacrificed so much so that we can live and enjoy our lives and our freedom. I will work with community programs as mayor to enhance the care of our veterans. We can never do enough for them. God Bless each and every one of you!
Mayor for the Day Program – I will have a Mayor for the Day Program, inviting community leaders to the mayor’s office to voice your concerns, needs, and wants. This will help the mayor’s office and city council with a starting point to improve ALL communities. This program will enable our citizens to directly interface with the mayor’s office.
A Vote for Russ is a Vote for US! - I want to work for you. I am not claiming to have all the answers. I have talked with so many people and when I ask them what they are looking for in a mayor, they all have similar responses - “Don’t forget about us”, “We need someone for the people. We haven’t had that.” I am ready, willing, and able to represent you. Given the opportunity, I will work tirelessly for the citizens of North Charleston. The government is supposed to work for the people and the City of North Charleston will work for the people under my leadership as mayor.
“Trust and verify” what the candidates are saying before you vote. This is a pivotal point in your city’s future. Vote for a candidate for all the right reasons. It doesn’t matter whose sign is in your yard. What matters is the person who leads your city is the best person for the job.
