WHAT IS COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS?

We are an in-school service at Thomas J Rusk Middle School we offer social groups, homework help, and support to students,families, and staff.

Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. We believe every student deserves; a one-on-one caring relationship with a caring adult,a safe place to grow and learn, a healthy start and a healthy future, a marketable skill to use upon graduation, and a chance to give back to peers and community.

Ms. Alanis, B.S.

Hello, my name is Ms. Alanis or Ms. A. I speak three languages (Spanish, American Sign Language, and English) I graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in 2011. I majored in Human Services Specialized in Counseling. My favorite hobbies are reading, watching movies, and spending quality time with family and friends.

I want to see all students succeed and grow. Always remember, anything is possible just set your mind to reach your goals.

Ms. Strong, MSW

Hello, my name is Ms. Strong. I graduated from Jackson State University in 2014 with my Bachelors in Social Work and in 2017 from The University of Texas-Arlington with my Masters of Social Work. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

I'm here to help each of you be successful this school year and in life. Life isn't all about what happens to you, its about how you react to it.
