All you need to get going on sewing!
Learn the basics such as getting thread on the bobbin, loading the bobbin, threading the machine and straight and zig-zag stitches, pinning, hemming, dress making seams and applique.
After getting to know your machine you will be able to make a cushion cover with an envelope back (which has no zips and no buttons) to take home and show all your friends. Also covered in the workshop are techniques to stop your stitches unraveling, how to stop your fabric fraying, as well as creating a 1.5cm dress making seams and assembling the project.
This is an ideal workshop if you are thinking about buying a machine or already have a machine and are not sure how to use it. If you are starting from scratch or last used a machine at school then this is the workshop for you.

The world or crochet is always developing new techniques and trends. One of the latest popular techniques is called Mosaic Crochet.
Mosaic crochet creates interesting patterns by working different colours of yarn, layered over each other. The results are stunning with no end of pattern variations. You can even make up your own!
In this short introductory workshop, you will learn the technique so you can get going on lots of projects. Mosaic crochet is versatile and lends itself to scarfs, cushions, blankets, coasters and much more.
Laura is the crochet enthusiast and qualified teacher leading this workshop. Crochet has been her passion for nearly 30 years and she has been teaching if for the last 10 years. It will be a relaxed but informative session with plenty of hot drinks and biscuits.
You should be able to complete basic crochet stitches before doing this course but you don’t have to be an expert crocheter to take part and improve your skills. Come and invest in yourself!

This is our beginners workshop where you will learn the basics such as chain, single crochet, double crochet, and half treble stitches. In the morning you will get to have a go at all the stitches and learn how to add beads to your projects too, creating your own little sample piece of crochet. In the afternoon you will be able to progress onto granny squares, which are really popular at the moment, and can be used to create cushions, baby blankets and lots of other items. Once you get the hang of the squares you won’t be able to stop! A crochet hook, wool and an instruction sheet are all included in the price of the workshop.

If you’ve ever found yourself torn between the drape of knitting and the structure of crochet, Tunisian Crochet is the craft you’ve been looking for. Often called "Afghan Crochet," this technique uses a specialised long hook to create a unique, woven-style fabric that is as versatile as it is beautiful.
In this short session you will learn the fundamentals of casting on, the forward and retune stitch techniques, reducing and increasing and casting off. All you need to get going on Tunisian Crochet.

Can you crochet already but are keen to learn some new techniques?
This two hour workshop will give you all the skills you need for the planned pooling technique. This involves landing the colours of variegated yarn so that they create the argyle pattern.
Its always nice to have a wearable item along with your skills and so we will be making a cowl with the skills.

Can you sew a basic seam, but want to be able to do more? Have you ever been put off doing a project because it you need to put in a zip or add some buttonholes? Then this is the short workshop for you! We will make a small make-up style bag for you to take home, which will give you chance to put in a zip and practice buttonholes. This is a great workshop for building on your basic skills and will give you lots more confidence for making your own clothes or lovely projects for your home.
There are five Running With Scissors machines available to use at the workshop, however you can bring your own if you wish. Please note that if you bring your own machine it will be up to you to make sure that it is in good working order and is safe to use. Running with Scissors cannot take responsibility for use of machines other than our own.
If you fancy coming to the workshop but have not really used a machine much then consider one of our ‘Sewing machines for Beginners’ courses which will give you the basic skills ready for your sewing adventures.

This enjoyable workshop will give you the knowledge and skills to be able to make your own lampshades for years to come. You will create a lampshade to match any room or become a talking point of your space.
You will learn to cut material and finish material, apply heat proof lining, mount material on frames, professionally finish your product and many more hints and tips along the way. Choose and bring half a meter of your choice of quality cotton to use on the day or buy a piece from our tutor.
This workshop is lead by Lauren who makes and sells her beautiful products through her company Timber and Lace.

This is a one hour slot for individual support with crochet. It is not for beginners but those who might want help with a particular pattern, technique or project. Bring along your crochet and spend some time improving knowledge and skills.

Oval Trinket Tray Set
In this 2-hour workshop you will be taught step by step, with demonstrations on how to use 3 different techniques to create 3 items: a mini terrazzo pot, a small marbled coaster & a large oval trinket tray (large enough to hold a pair of glasses, or multiple items of jewellery. All materials for each process are provided so you don’t have to bring anything other than yourself & potentially an apron/large shirt if you want to keep your clothes clean.
Jesmonite is quick to set, you will be able to take your creations home with you at the end of the workshop!
This workshop is lead by our Jasminite expert Gaby. She makes eco-friendly, unique homeware and has years of workshop experience.
Lino printing is a form of block printing that involves carving a pattern or design into a linoleum, rubber or vinyl surface that can then be used to print designs onto a number of surfaces. This 2.5 hour session will provide an introduction to basic lino printing. It is intended for those with little to no lino printing experience who wish to learn in a fun and supportive environment.
The course will include:
– Learning about Lino cutting tools and techniques
– Design and composition tips
– Learning about inks, paper and the printing processes
By the end of the session you will have produced your own lino print using water based ink and a carved lino sheet which you can use again at home.
Fiona is our tutor for this workshop. She is a local artist that works solely in the medium of lino. Her work is inspired by folklore, medieval woodcuts and the usual.
In this workshop Helen will support you to learn the free motion, machine embroidery technique. You will use this to create a bowel using water soluble stabiliser. You will stitch into this water soluble fabric base. Once the design is complete, you will wash this away, leaving your decorative stitching behind.
