Privacy Policy for RunGear

At RunGear, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile and web applications. RunGear is fully compliant with the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
We believe in strict data minimization. We only collect the absolute minimum data required to make the app function:
Real-Time Location Data: To provide you with accurate, localized weather data and outfit recommendations, RunGear requests access to your device's location. Your coordinates are sent securely via API to convert your position into a readable city format and to fetch current weather data from Open-Meteo. We do not store, log, or track your location history.
2. Third-Party Data Processing
To deliver real-time weather metrics, we utilize weather services provided by Open-Meteo. Only anonymized geographic coordinates are sent to their servers. No personally identifiable information (PII) is shared with them.
3. Local Data Storage
Your user preferences—such as cold sensitivity settings, preferred temperature units, and long run tracking—are saved locally on your own device. We do not sync this data to an external database or server.
4. Data Retention and Your Rights (PIPEDA Compliance)
Because we do not collect or store your personal data on external servers, we do not retain your personal information. You may wipe all local preferences instantly by navigating to Settings > Account and selecting Delete Account.
5. Third-Party Websites and External Links
Our App may contain links to external websites and clothing retailers operated by third parties (such as when users link to items in their custom closets). Once you click on an external link or leave our App, our Privacy Policy no longer governs your activity. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the privacy practices, tracking technologies, or data collection policies of any third-party websites or retailers. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external site you visit.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the "What's New" release notes in the updated App Store version prior to or upon the release of the update, alongside a revised "Effective Date" posted within the App. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
