Sumiyoshi Shrine, located in Suminoe, Otaru, Hokkaido, is enshrined as the main guardian deity of Otaru, and is included in the Association of Shinto Shrines. It is said to grant a wide range of benefits, including safe childbirth, recovery from illness, safety in the home, road safety, and business prosperity, and accepts various prayers, such as first shrine visits, Shinto weddings, and Shichigosan visits. Within the shrine grounds are stone steps lined with a thousand bright vermilion torii gates, and during the flower visit period, colorful flowers floating in the water at the temizuya (purification fountain) attract visitors.
