This photograph was taken from the top of the roof of the building "La Cité Radieuse". This unité d'habitation in Marseille was created by Le Courbusier between 1947 and 1952, and it is an ícon of modern architecture. The photographer wished to highlight the connection of the building with the spirit of the Mediterranean light, sea, and landscape. It is an homage to its creator — Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, more known as Le Courbusier — for his capacity to overlap modernity and a previous identity of that region.
