Meet Our Community Herbalist & Artist:
Jay McKinley first became interested in herbal medicine watching their spouse struggle to recover from a botched-impacted wisdom tooth removal surgery. The healing process was horrific and Western medicine just wasn't cutting it (if you've experienced dry sockets...you know). The prescribed painkillers didn't seem to touch the deep-rooted nerve pain or help with the infection, and the healing process seemed never-ending. Their spouse was unable to get adequate support after experiencing medical gaslighting.
Finally, after extensive research and a trip to the grocery store, they watched their spouse go from constant excruciating pain to being able to sleep and eat, something they had hardly been able to do comfortably in weeks. All because of one herbal ally...Clove!
After this experience, Jay dove head-first into the wide world of herbalism and plant magic. Becoming a student of herbal medicine through the Herbal Medicine Making program at The Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine, completing their Herbal Medicine-Making Certification taught by author, herbalist, and founder Juliet Blankespoor. They are currently continuing their herbal education within the Family Farmacy program through Iwilla Remedy, instructed by head clinical herbalist Selima Harleston Lust. Where they are learning to address common acute family ailments, the basics of anatomy and physiology, and With an established love for helping others, a background in mutual aid organization, and a passion for creating community-based solutions to systemic problems, Jay continues their work by helping folks of all backgrounds find healing.
