A selected starting set for dancers with some in-person Rueda de Casino experience who want to review, prepare to join, or begin calling. It is not the full Basic Foundations list or a universal sequence, syllabus, or standard.
Foundations
- Guapea
- Dame
- Dile Que No
Simple Figures
- Enchufla
- Enchufla Doble
- Adios / Prima
- Vacilala
- Sombrero
- Un Fly
Preparation
Before joining or calling, review:
- the call name and starting position of each figure
- when the call is given and how the group responds
- the direction used by the group
- where each partner change takes you
- the ending position and how the rueda continues
- local names, hand signals, and execution differences
Group practice is needed for:
- responding to a sequence of calls together
- completing partner changes on time, or ending an unfinished figure safely before rejoining the sequence
- maintaining spacing and circle formation
- recovering when timing or position is lost
Before Starting
Before starting, the group should confirm that there is enough space, agree on the calling arrangement and conventions, and choose a short shared set that the group has reviewed and can perform together. More than one dancer can learn to call the same set, reducing dependence on a single caller.
Dancer Responsibilities
Each dancer is responsible for:
- listening and responding to the calls
- maintaining their position, spacing, and connection to the circle
- completing partner changes on time
- recovering and rejoining the group when timing or position is lost
Caller Responsibilities
In addition to the responsibilities shared by all dancers:
- Call only figures whose starting position, main sequence, partner changes, and ending position you know.
- Review the terms, hand signals, directions, and conventions used by the group.
- Give each call early enough for dancers to begin on the intended count.
- Choose figures the group can complete at the current tempo. If timing, spacing, or partner changes begin to break down, reduce the difficulty or return to a shared basic.
