Ruby Singha was born in Tezpur, Assam, into a family deeply immersed in the arts. Her father Prabodh Chandra Barua was a respected actor, while her mother Prafullabala Barua was a celebrated vocalist known for her contributions to Assamese music.Prafullabala Barua held a distinguished position as the lead singer of Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha’s music group and was also a pioneering member of Assam’s first all-female orchestra, founded by the legendary Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala. Her artistic legacy laid a strong foundation for Ruby’s own musical journey.

Inspired by her mother’s talent and dedication, Ruby Singha began learning music at an early age. She actively participated in school performances and was a regular performer at Moina Parijat, a cultural platform for young artists. Her creative spirit emerged early—she composed her first original song while still in high school, marking the beginning of a lifelong connection with music.

Ruby Singha’s musical journey flourished following her marriage to renowned music director Ajit Singha, marking a new chapter of artistic growth and recognition. Her soulful voice has captivated audiences across generations, earning her a cherished place in the hearts of music lovers.

With a repertoire of hundreds of original Assamese songs, Ruby Singha has also lent her voice and musical composition to works by some of Assam’s most esteemed lyricists including Hiren Bhattacharya, Gita Hatikakati, and Idris Ali. Her contributions have not only enriched the cultural landscape of Assam but have also garnered numerous accolades—most notably, the prestigious Prag Cine Award and Sur Nandini title conferred by the esteemed Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Memorial Trust  honoring her exceptional impact on Assamese music.
