LDCE is a premier government engineering institute in Gujarat, set with the objectives of imparting technical education, research and training in various fields of engineering as per AICTE. The institute is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad and is administered by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat. The institute was established in June 1948 by the textile magnate Sheth Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai in a campus of 58 acres of land. It offers 30 courses at undergraduate and post - graduate levels. The total student enrollment at the institute stands at more than 6000. In its journey of 7 decades LDCE has scaled noteworthy national and international credentials in its curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Three programs of BE(Civil), BE(Mechanical) and BE(Electrical) are NBA accredited and 5 other programs are undergoing the process for the same. LDCE faculty members have been awarded in various fields for their extraordinary work. Some of the faculty members have been invited as experts for various courses and training programs around the world. The institute is a vibrant hub for innovation. The institute promotes sports, culture and social service activities for the holistic development of its meritorious students. An annual exhibition is held to showcase the final year students’ projects and startups to junior students, parents, industry and experts for rating and awards. Students are actively involved in Digital Literacy Workshop and Awareness drives for organ donation, Health Checkup of all First Year Students, Green Campus and many more. Recently LDCE students’team has won the ROBOCON India 2019 at National level and represented India at international level in Mongolia. To promote R & D, the institute has created state-of-theart central facilities for Design Lab, Incubator Lab, Centre of Excellence in Welding, Centre of Excellence in Automation by Siemens. A MoU with Siemens has facilitated Aerospace & Defense center, Product Design and Validation Lab, Advanced Manufacturing Lab, Automation Lab and Electrical Lab. ISRO NAVIC Satellite Communication Receiver and Supercomputer Lab have been installed for professional level research. Recently Start-ups such as Exposit, Reolo, Trauma Patch have received National and International Award. 71 such projects are funded for innovation under SSIP policy of Government of Gujarat. Each department of the institute regularly receives project grants from the state and central government.
