The best time to plant is from May until October. Make sure that the soil is damp before you plant.
How to choose a site?
Look at your site. Is it frost prone, swampy, dry, sandy, exposed to wind, salty, coastal, north south facing, shady, sunny?
Select plants to suit the conditions of the site and review what is growing in the area.
What to do before planting?
The most important actions you need to take care of are:
- If you live in the country, fencing out the stock is absolutely necessity.
- Spray weeds and grasses out of the area.
- Control pests; if you have rabbits, hares, opossums then trees should be protected with a cover for the first year.
What to do after Planting?
Keep up with pest control!
Clear any competing weeds and grasses until trees have grown above them. Spread compost around trees for summer protection and to stop weeds from growing.
