History
Ruach AZA was founded in 1987 when it split off from what is now Ruach BBG and formed it's own chapter. That is why Ruach AZA and Ruach BBG both have the same number of boards even though Ruach AZA's charter date is earlier. Ruach was a part of the BMA Area in the beginning but was the strongest chapter in that Area and currently (2023) The Ruach chapters are the only ones left from the BMA Area.
Ruach AZA is unique in that it is one of few chapters which have stood the test of time when the going got tough. During the early 2000s, a majority of the Brooklyn/Manhattan chapters were beginning to fold and Ruach AZA dwindled down to only a few members, the Queens chapters all thought that Ruach AZA was going to fold and nobody had faith in us. But then we fought on and grew to almost 40 members which was the most any chapter had at the time. A similar thing happened in 2015 when everyone thought we would fold another time. The chapter had shrunk after a very strong senior class graduated. The board was not full so positions had to be merged, and the chapter was smaller. However, Ruach AZA was once again able to rebuild and become stronger. Sadly, a lot of progress was lost after the virtual year during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The elected Ruach AZA board for that year was only one position filled and there were only 2 active members to start the year. But through hard work, dedication, and honoring the Cardinal Principles Ruach AZA was able to grow to become the strongest chapter in Big Apple Region, with dedicated members who can all recite Up You Men from memory.
