Rtl9210b-cg Firmware Download VERIFIED

Using the RealTek UTHSB_MPTool_Lite tool (also available from Plugable), I was able to dump the firmware info which showed build v1.23.9 from 2020. The latest available build is v1.29.8 (December 29 2021) which addresses stability with Samsung 980 Pro and WD SN550 SSDs and other minor improvements. I was able to use the tool to update my unit to the latest firmware in about 2 minutes.

Surprisingly, regardless of the version of the enclosure, both identified themselves with VID 0BDA and PID 9210 with REV 2001. Both seem to overwrite the disk ID with Realtek RTL9210B-CG and supports UASP. I suspect this means the RTL9210 chip on the NVMe version probably runs the same firmware as the RTL9210B on the dual-mode version. Because of this, only a very limited test was run on the dual-mode version.

Framework BIOS is 3.17. SSD firmware was up-to-date as of a few months ago (I cannot recall the exact version, but it was updated sometime in 2022, and there was never a newer firmware after that). The SSD was about 1% spent according to nvme smart-log, and had about 25TBW (out of 600). The machine is running Arch Linux, and the only setting that I can think of that could be connected to this is /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy, which I used to set to powersupersave.
