Reimagining Education Through the Arts

Reimagining Education through the Arts (RēTA) is a new teacher/leader professional development program of the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art (SVMA), being implemented in collaboration with the Sonoma Valley Unified School District (SVUSD), and Integrated Design for Education, the Arts and Leadership (IDEAL) Bay Area.

RēTA supports teachers and leaders from across the SVUSD to engage with the museum as a site of joyful learning, connecting to contemporary artists and arts practices that can expand the possibilities of critical thinking, self-expression, and integrating the arts across content areas in the K-12 classrooms. SVMA’s goal is to support the creative learning journey of students of Sonoma Valley, encouraging deeper thinking and to have the confidence, courage, and creative ability to create a thriving future for the Sonoma community.

PROJECT GOALS

1. Consider how the arts transform schools and learning communities to support students, teachers, and leaders to grow and thrive as joyful learners, creative explorers, and critical thinkers.

2. Learn and use specific arts strategies and creative inquiry practices as teachers and SVUSD administrative leaders.

3. Build community and a sense of belonging through the power of the arts.

4. Engage in imagining a sustainable, cross-disciplinary arts education ecosystem for all students.
