Position Description

The Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering (IME) at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering seeks to recruit highly motivated Ph.D. students to join Dr. Rebekah Sweat’s research group, as early as Spring 2020.

Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. in Industrial Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Applicants should possess the ability to work independently, as well as in a team. Fine scientific writing skills and fluency (both oral and written) in English are required.

Other desired qualifications include: (1) the determination to explore and break new ground; (2) research interests in modeling and simulation with knowledge in software tools such as Abaqus, ANSYS, Altair, SolidWorks, MATLAB, CAD software; and (3) experience with experimental techniques such as SEM, TEM, DMA, rheology, mechanical testing, electrical testing, DSC, TGA, AFM, Raman Spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, composites manufacturing and tools.

About PI

Rebekah Sweat joined the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering as an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering in August 2019. Dr. Sweat has industry experience and broad research interests in micromechanics, nanomaterials, composites, fracture mechanics, digital twin technology, predictive simulations, multifunctional materials. She is published in high-impact journals including Carbon, Advanced Engineering Materials and Composites Science and Technology. Prior to joining, she was a Research Scientist at Solvay in the Composite Materials Global Business Unit where she worked in Greenville, SC on micromechanics and digital twin technology.
