Reshan is a junior at Capistrano Valley High School (CVHS) in Mission Viejo, and he has been studying ceramics in and outside of school for the past 4 years under the instruction of Brian Schultz (CVHS) and Robert Moore (Muddy's Studio). He specializes in wheel throwing functional ware and vessels with an emphasis on bottle forms. In the coming years he hopes to further challenge himself on the wheel and explore hand-building techniques.
Art is, at its core, a means of expression. A medium to bridge the gap between articulated thoughts and perceived meaning. But it does not have to be so philosophical. For me, ceramics has served as a salvation. When I first sat down at the wheel I couldn't have imagined how interwoven ceramics would become in my life through the following years. Ceramics has served not only as an outlet for me to express myself, but also as a means of working on something without it feeling like work. Something I know I care about, and something I can be proud of. Something not bound by rubrics or expectations.
I would consider myself somewhat of an advanced potter, I have 3 solid years under my belt. However, I also recognize that I have much room to grow. This semester I want to recognize my personal style and refine it. But I also want my pieces to be more than just pieces. I want them to represent different parts of me. I want them to be art.
