For the Spring '26 semester we plan on working on some open problems in Low Dimensional Topology taken from K3: A new problem list in low-dimensional topology
Speaker: Inanc Baykur
Title: Open Problems on Surface Bundles
Abstract: I will talk about some open problems on surface bundles
Speaker: Miriam Kuzbary
Title: Problems in knot and link concordance
Abstract: We’ll discuss why the knot concordance group is interesting in its own right and some of its connections with important problems about 4-manifolds.
Speaker: Porter Morgan
Title: The existence of smooth structures on simply-connected manifolds.
Abstract: I will give a general survey of what we know about smooth structures on simply-connected 4-manifolds. I will try to explain why many open problems in section 4.2 of the K3 book involve a 4-manifold invariant called the first Chern number. I aim to make this talk accessible to anyone who's taken a general topology course and is familiar with Lefschetz fibrations, either from the first K3 meeting or elsewhere. Here are the notes of the talk!
March 6
Speaker: Riccardo Pedrotti
Title: Some Open problems in Symplectic Geometry
Abstract: I will give a survey on some open problems in Symplectic Geometry (4.90, 4.92-3, 4.96-7-8 based on time) by emphasizing the definitions and commenting on what is known about them and what could be viable strategies to tackle them.
