CogAT Gifted Assessment
CogAT Gifted Assessment
The CogAT is a cognitive abilities assessment that measures reasoning skills through verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal tasks. All Roosevelt School District second‑grade students are assessed each year. In addition, three rounds of referral‑based testing are offered annually for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade.

Measures a child’s ability to remember and manipulate English word sequences, understand their meaning, and draw inferences or judgments. Question types include picture analogies, sentence completion, and picture classification.
Quantitative
Quantitative
Measures a child’s understanding of numbers and their ability to solve problems using numerical relationships, with emphasis on pattern recognition, quantitative interpretation, and logical reasoning. Question types include number analogies, number puzzles, and number series.
Nonverbal
Nonverbal
Measures nonverbal reasoning through pictures and geometric shapes, focusing on identifying visual patterns, analyzing spatial relationships, and applying logical rules. Question types include figure matrices, paper folding, and figure classification.
