About GICT

Event Overview: The "Caribbean Girls in ICT and the Boys Who Support Them" event is scheduled for April 25, 2024, from 10 am to 5 pm. The aim is to engage 50,000 participants from across 15 Caribbean countries, showcasing the importance of STEM education, particularly in ICT, and providing valuable insights into career opportunities in these fields.


Background: Inspired by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), this event is organized by Restore a Sense of I Can (RSC) in collaboration with CARICOM, the Caribbean Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (CAPSS), and various organizations, companies, and NGOs. For the past seven years, this program has been promoting social development through education and technology, empowering the next generation for a brighter future.


Event Format:

• Competition (April 1st to 25th, 2024): A competition preceding the main event to engage participants and build momentum.

• Main Event Day (April 25th, 2024):


Participant Engagement: Participants, mainly secondary and primary school students, along with tertiary students and adults, will have the option to attend multiple sessions tailored to their interests. They must attend at least three sessions for certification. Selected sessions will also cater to visually impaired, hearing impaired, and Spanish-speaking participants.


Collaboration Opportunities: Organizations can assist with the competition, host breakout sessions, provide technical and event management support, and fully brand and customize their sessions for exposure to a large regional audience. Additionally, branding opportunities will extend throughout the event.


Event Registration and Portal: Participants will register through a dedicated portal featuring the GICT2024 microsite. The site will provide comprehensive information on sessions, speakers, room links, physical locations, and support systems for queries. Pre-registration for individual sessions will begin on April 1st, 2024, with presenters required to submit session descriptions by March 29th.

Additional Activities:

• Morning Assemblies in Schools: Selected students delivering presentations to the general assembly.

• Video Sessions in Schools: Access to pre-recorded videos for group sessions.

• Asynchronous Activities: Engage in activities at their convenience via the portal, including videos, simulations and games.

This event aims to inspire and empower the youth of the Caribbean region, fostering interest and participation in ICT and STEM fields, ultimately contributing to their personal and professional development.
