Fadelah McWilfred

Animation Executive at Guyana Animation Network (GAN)

My name is Fadelah McWilfred and I am a 21 year old Animation Executive at GAN Studios. I graduated from the CXC Arts class in 2018 and the CAPE Law class from The Bishop’s High School. I am currently studying at the University of Guyana in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in English: Literature and Linguistics and Psychology.

I've been drawing from the moment I could pick up a pencil. While being an artist is a difficult with me as my harshest critic, I've grown to love this process a lot and watching my characters spring from stories as I turn words and ideas into pictures. Theater also became close to my heart and I loved the idea of giving voices to my character. This desire and passion led me to GAN’s website, where I signed up for a workshop for voiceover artists.

The workshop lasted from July 25 – 30 in 2022. It was a very welcoming space and I remember the experience feeling so surreal. The people were warm and encouraging, helping to build my confidence in both myself and my craft. It was also a very positive space that helped the students grow and push out of their comfort zones. I was awarded not only with a certificate but also a first place winner of those rated for creativity, pitch, tone, accent and use of technology.

Once the workshop had ended, I applied for a volunteer job as a Script-to-Voice Coordinator for an upcoming project for GAN Studios. The entire team was extremely supportive in assisting me as a newcomer to the project and teaching me how to manage scripts and auditions. I also auditioned for the project. Since my time at GAN began, I have been pushed to grow into my craft while also learning the value in myself and what I have to offer.
