Statement & Information

First of all, we do want to apologize to anyone who might have been upset when they found out that any "Leaked" missions or content in the last day was not entirely real. The intent was never to troll Destiny players, but to create a fun puzzle and kind of a moment to look back on and think, "Yep, I fell for that!"

Basically, consider anything between March 31st, and April 2nd suspect and probably a joke, as you generally should every year.

Below, we go over the original idea, why we decided against it, and what to think going forward from here. TL;DR - We made a fake puzzle that hit a little too close to home, so we decided to go ahead and skip the "Fool's" part of the whole thing.

What was the plan?

Release a puzzle that brings people together in a fun way.

The original idea was to release tiny bits of "data-mined" content and information as teasers about a new puzzle and story-line. Some of this is entirely fan-service for a story-line that probably wont happen, but who knows?

This would be done by a couple people over the course of April Fools Day (Which for those people in the US, starts about 16 hours earlier than you think). Inside of these released lore pieces players would find a puzzle that is grounded in reality.* The puzzle and its associated "lore" was created to be extremely believable, but there are aspects that do expand on or work with existing game lore or leaked assets.

This would then take a few steps to decipher and decrypt (very reminiscent of previous Destiny puzzles) and lead players to a site for a little Rick-Roll and a reward for the first solver!

*Everything outside of what we release with this puzzle is still legitimate, and we still think there could be real puzzles associated with some of the things we used from the game

Why did you change it?

We realized that we would create more problems than fun.

From the beginning, we were concerned how this might play out. We wanted something to get people a little excited, and into solving a puzzle. And from the beginning we tried to include hints that this would be a joke. Including unrealistic information, and the numbers "41", "0401", and "deceive" peppered liberally into some info. We are well aware that players are a bit sensitive right now regarding the current state of the game and the way that story is or isn't conveyed to us, and that being mislead would not foster any good will.

After the reaction to the "Iron Tomb" event, we decided to not release it as found content, and instead use it as a community event. To be clear, there was still a little prank that was planned before the puzzle was created, we just ended up bringing it into the fold as a teaser for the full puzzle with the name "Iron Tomb".

How can I trust anyone releasing data-mined/found content anymore?

How did you trust any of those people a week ago?

Simply put, you should take everything with a HUGE grain of salt if it isn't confirmed by Bungie or actually put into the game. Every time someone finds something either in the game files, in the API, or even inside of the game itself, it does not mean that it will actually come to pass. Treat it like the news, if you can't verify it yourself, it might not be accurate.

There are many reasons for this. Occasionally things end up in the world that are incomplete, or cancelled but for some reason still made it into the code that gets pushed out by Bungie. Sometimes its content that gets changed or re-written at the last minute. It could be fan-fiction or artwork that still shows up every so often as "this will happen next!" *cough* Wish-15 *cough* And occasionally, it might even be a joke.

We are all hungry for the amazing content that we get from Destiny. That's why we mine, leak, rip, render, speculate, etc. We are always hunting for the next puzzle to solve, the next challenge to complete, and the next opportunity to push ourselves to our limits.

Who are we?

Mostly, we are all from the Raid Secrets community. Before that, we are members of the Destiny community. Every person who worked on this is a die-hard Destiny fan who has put countless amounts of time into the game, and creating content outside of it as well. This includes cataloging nearly every perk of every weapon, figuring out and documenting Raid mechanics, mining the deep pits of data, inspecting every nook and cranny of every map, looking for puzzles in nearly every byte that Bungie puts out, and moderating all you crazy people out there!
