Session 1 : A brief about Quantum computer and its uses in Finance sector

Speaker : Ankit Sharma

Abstract :

The subject of quantum computing brings together ideas from classical information theory, computer science, and quantum physics. This session aims to summarize not just quantum computing, but also about Quantum Finance and its uses. Classical computers possess a challenge in computing computational finance problems having higher degree of complexity. The need to respond faster to dynamic market shift in option pricing and the system load on basic computers as the workflows into the pipeline, with the entry of Quantum computation in the market, these tasks can be accomplished at a faster rate. Quantum computers are expected to have substantial impact on the finance industry, as they will be able to solve certain problems considerably faster than the best-known classical algorithms. This session will help you understand Quantum Computing and Quantum Finance in an interesting and easy to remember way. In this session we’ll go through such potential applications of quantum computing in finance, starting with the quantum speedups for Monte Carlo methods, portfolio optimization, and machine learning, where each application has varying attainable quantum speedup and estimated quantum resources required to achieve a practical speedup.

Session 2 : Introduction to Quantum Computing for Optimization Applications

Abstract :

Computing plays an important role as information systems are becoming more automated, embedded, and networked with everyday experiences. For over 40 years, the demands of the commerce, security, and logistics sectors have been met through innovations in computing technology and software programming.But the speedups available from these approaches are beginning to wane, and new opportunities for maintaining growth in the computing sector are being sought. This includes radically different methods that do not conform to the existing transistor-based computing paradigms. With many different candidates under consideration, perhaps one of the most remarkable is a technology derived from the theory of quantum computing. Quantum computers have unique capabilities that lend themselves to possibly solving complex optimization problems like that of logistics, bio-medical, multi-physics modelling and simulations more efficiently by using the quantum property of superposition to represent all possible solutions while the quantum property of interference enables the identification of low-cost, high-value solutions. Classical methods for these problems tend to have either exponentially growing compute times or sub-optimal performance. In this session, we will go through Quantum Opmization Algorithms and their promising applications that improve on the sub-optimal solutions without incurring the cost of the exponentially longer compute times.

Session 3 : Quantum Machine Learning : A Classical Perspective

Abstract :

Quantum machine learning (QML) is the integration of quantum algorithms within machine learning programs. The most common use of the term refers to machine learning algorithms for the analysis of classical data executed on a quantum computer, i.e. quantum-enhanced machine learning. While machine learning algorithms are used to compute immense quantities of data, Quantum Machine Learning utilizes qubits and quantum operations or specialized quantum systems to improve computational speed and data storage done by algorithms in a program. This includes hybrid methods that involve both classical and quantum processing, where computationally difficult subroutines are outsourced to a quantum device. These routines can be more complex in nature and executed faster on a quantum computer. Furthermore, quantum algorithms can be used to analyze quantum states instead of classical data. Beyond quantum computing, the term "quantum machine learning" is also associated with classical machine learning methods applied to data generated from quantum experiments, such as learning the phase transitions of a quantum system or creating new quantum experiments. Quantum Machine Learning also extends to a branch of research that explores methodological and structural similarities between certain physical systems and learning systems, in particular neural networks.

Session 4 : Basics of Quantum Cryptography

Abstract :

The Public Key Cryptosystem, including RSA, Elgamal, ECC and the related variant plays important role in securing confidential communication. This algorithm are based on some mathematical complexity and key exchange, classical system can take 10 million years to crack this complexity, if Quantum Computer become a reality in coming year these data are prone to Quantum attack, that is the reason we should focus on Quantum Cryptography. In this session we will go through concept of polarization (physics part) and QKD protocol to give an over view of Quantum Cryptography. The risk to our data is inevitable, the integrity of encrypted data is being questioned and it so high time to see if our systems can withstand these Quantum attacks and make them Quantum safe. Peter Shor showed that a theoretical quantum computer could solve an intractable mathematical problem in ways that a classical computer never could by side-stepping the need to calculate single values at a time. Quantum computers can perform operations on qubits in superposition and reduce the time complexity of a problem exponentially. The single universal solution to cover this problem is not the winning approach. Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNG), Post-Quantum Cryptography, and existing schemes all need to co- exist and transition into specific approaches with time.

Session 5 : Quantum Random Number Generators

Abstract :

Quantum computing is a relatively new field when it comes to exploring it. One of its most important usages is in the field of encryption. Quantum random number generators (QRNGs) are most likely going to be the standard when it comes to randomness. The pureness of the quantum process, despite its theoretical non-deterministic fundamental “unpredictability”, still remains, however, the main problem in practical QRNG implementations, including the so-called Device Independent (DI) QRNGs. There are two types of random number generators. They are deterministic and non-deterministic. They are also called pseudorandom number generators and true random number generators respectively. The DRDO Young Scientist Laboratory for Quantum Technologies (DYSL-QT) has developed a fibre-optic branch path based QRNG. This QRNG works on beam splitting technique where a single photon falling on a beam splitter will take either of two paths which are denoted as 0 and 1. After repeating this process of photon taking either of two paths sometimes we get a randomly long binary number. Developments like these will greatly help in fields of cryptography and encryption. In the session, I’ll introduce the basic concepts of random number generators, their types and how these types differ from each other. Then I will explain the working of a special QRNG i.e. the one developed by the DRDO young scientist labs on the beam splitting technique. Finally, I would be explaining its applications using practical examples in various fields.

Session 6 : QPong : Using IBM Qiskit and PyGame

Abstract :

Using Game theory for modelling interaction between players with situational outcomes governed by set of rules helps us design a fair game if the game involves decision-making. Quantum game theory is an extension of classical game theory to the quantum domain by leveraging Superposed initial states, Quantum entanglement of initial states, Superposition of strategies to be used on the initial states. A game can be viewed as a state preparation; the state that is prepared being a function of the initial state, the actions (operations) available to the players, and the measurement and payoffs .The players goal is to produce some pre-measurement output state which, when measured and payoffs assigned, will generate their optimal return. QPong is a quantum version of the classic Pong. In this game, we create a quantum circuit to control the paddle position. Spooky quantum phenomena like superposition and wave function collapse show up in the game when we place Hadamard gates on the circuit. Quantum games is addressed as a tool for preparing a quantum state and the state we are interested in providing an equilibrium of suitably defined quantum game. In this session, we will introduce quantum video games, algorithms and logics to develop a Qpong quantum circuit using Qiskit framework in Python. Then we will perform live implementation and demonstration of QPong in IBM Q simulator.
