REGIONAL DAY REMINDERS
Remember to bring all required copies of COMPETITION PAPERWORK
Fix it Kit
It is always a good idea to have a fix it kit with all of the items the kids might need to make repairs to the set, costumes etc.
Trading
Trading usually starts around 4:00 but could be earlier. It will take place in the lower gym. The kids will set up their trading items on the floor. Parents and coaches are recommended to not be in the trading area as it gets very chaotic and crowded.
It is recommended that each kid gets 5-10 dollar store items to bring for trading (they could also find thing around home to trade). There will also be in person awards!! We are SO excited to be back to a full competition. It is a great day and the kids have a blast.
Awards
Awards will typically start around 4:30 but could be earlier or later. We recommend all Division I, II & III teams stay for awards. Team members and coaches will sit on the floor of the gym (you may want to bring a blanket). Parents and other spectators will sit in the bleachers. You will find out at that time if your team is moving on to States.
Primary teams will not receive awards and do not move on to States. They are not scored but instead are given stars and positive comments. Therefore they do not need to attend awards. Awards can be long after such a big day.
Food
The cafeteria will be open for lunch and snacks. Our team usually had a parent/s organize lunch and snacks for the day. If you set up food on a table for the day, please be aware of how crowded it is. If there are no empty tables, do not leave your things out taking up a table when you are not using it.
Shirt
Wear your Rockford shirts to competition. Each school district wears matching shirts. You can wear them all day, except for Long Term performance, including to spontaneous.
Watching Teams
We encourage teams to watch other Rockford teams (or teams from other school districts) and cheer them on. It is great to get to see orange shirts in the audience. Rockford has the majority of teams so it is important that we are friendy and supportive of all teams including those from other school districts. We have a new program at a district so lets show them how supportive the OM community is!
ADVANCING TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT (Source: Michigan OM Rules)
The number of places advancing in each problem and division is determined by the number of teams competing.:
1 through 6 teams registered - 2 places advance (1st & 2nd)
7 through 12 teams registered - 3 places advance (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
13 through 18 teams registered - 4 places advance (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th)
19 plus teams registered - 5 places advance (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th)
If there is a tie both qualifying teams advance in that place. Long-term and Spontaneous Ranatra Fusca winners also advance whether it is a team award or an individual award.
In order for a team to advance to the next level of competition it must score a minimum of 75-points raw score, before penalties, in its Long Term performance. If no team across the state scores 75 points in a given problem/division, the rule defers to the advancing team formula and teams advance accordingly from each region. NOTE: In 2013/14, this rule was removed from Division I teams.
