What is the solar water pumping system:
A solar water pumping system uses solar energy to power a pump that draws water from a source like a well or a pond. This system is essentially a water pump powered by photovoltaic (PV) panels, which convert sunlight into electricity. The electricity then powers a motor that drives the pump. Solar pumping system is a combination of solar PV modules and solar pump controller also known as solar drive as well as VFD (veriable frequency drive). Solar PV modules are generating power by using sun rays with the help of photo voltaic cells and this generated power sent to the controller (VFD) to control and invert it. Solar PV modules generating DC power to which we need to convert it into AC power to run existing electric motor. This solar pumps diliver water as per sun light intensity so, water out is not constant. The water output is depends on type of pump and source of water, however head will go higher water output will affect. Mostly open well pumps are starting to water dilivery by 8:00 AM and slowly increasing. Solar pumps working span is a approx 6-8 hrs with variable water discharge.
Arrangement :
Solar Panels:
These panels capture sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity.
Pump Controller:
If the pump motor requires alternating current (AC), an pump controller (VFD - Variable frequancy deive) converts the DC electricity from the solar panels to AC in case we are using existing AC pumps Otherwise controller will act as a DC to DC coverter to run DC pumpset.
Pump Motor:
This motor is powered by the DC or AC electricity and drives the pump
Pump:
The pump extracts water from the source (well, pond, Tubewell, or from available source...) and delivers it to where it's needed, such as for irrigation or water supply.
How it works:
Sunlight: Solar panels absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity.
Electricity Conversion: The DC electricity is converted to AC (if needed) by an inverter.
Powering the Pump: The AC (or DC) electricity powers the pump motor, which then drives the pump
Water Pumping: The pump extracts water from the source and delivers it to its destination
Advantages of Solar Water Pumping:
Renewable Energy: Uses a clean and renewable energy source (sunlight)
Reduced Costs: Lowers electricity bills and eliminates the need for diesel or fossil fuels
Low Maintenance: Solar water pumps generally require less maintenance than traditional pumps
Environmental Benefits: Reduces carbon emissions and pollution
Suitable for Remote Areas: Can be used in areas without access to the electricity grid
