Ms. Lynn Rozelman

About Me

I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, where I lived through fourth grade. I completed fifth through seventh grades in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from high school in Louisville, Kentucky. I am the middle of three sisters. I earned my teaching degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where I majored in English and minored in Spanish. I taught for five years in Mentor, Ohio; nine years in Greenville, South Carolina; and have just completed my twentieth year at Grimsley High. The 2017-2018 school term will be my 34th year of teaching, and I have no intention of retiring any time soon!

I have two children, Nicole Martin and Doug Rozelman. Nicole, who lives here in Greensboro with her husband, works as the VP for Digital Strategy at Pace. She has given me two adorable grandchildren, Olivia and Brayden, who breathe new life into me every day. Doug lives in Lexington, South Carolina, where he is happily married with a beautiful daughter named Hetty Rose and a handsome son named Brady. He enjoys a wonderful career in the HVAC business, selling units throughout South Carolina.

Reading and writing have always been passions of mine. Teaching these two subjects brings me great pleasure. Watching students discover insights and identify inferences in what they read is for what I strive, along with guiding them to write about what they understand. Class discussions that address the relevance of what we explore in class to my students' personal lives and ambitions make my job all the more satisfying.

Teaching journalism classes is also a strong interest of mine. I have advised newspaper and yearbook staffs in both South Carolina and here at Grimsley. One reason is because the teaching of writing, though different from a journalistic perspective, is still the primary objective. Layout design, caption writing, photography, and business management skills are also key to the yearbook publication. Students find it stimulating to apply their creativity to the Whirligig.

Since my English classes include mostly juniors and seniors, I feel honored that I am one of the last high school teachers they have. Hopefully, I will help them prepare for their futures that involve colleges, careers, and families. If my subject knowledge, academic rigor, sense of humor, and wisdom that only comes with age have a positive impact on my students, then I know I have done my job.
