Getting to Armenia:
Currently, there is one international airport in Armenia. It’s the Zvartnots Airport (IATA: EVN, ICAO: UDYZ) located near the capital of Yerevan, about 15 km west of it.
Getting to Yerevan:
Getting to Yerevan from the airport on taxi is the easiest way to reach the city. It will set you back about 4,500 dram (~$10 USD) on the taxi app (GG taxi, Yangex Taxi or UTaxi), read more.
! Taking cab from airport without pre-ordering from taxi app is not recommended, as drivers usually overprice the ride.
Some additional info on taxi:
1. If you have access to Yandex.Taxi, no worries, use the app as usual. But unfortunately, it turns out that many local stores does not allow you to install it
2. UTaxi now requires you to have an Armenia sim card, you can buy it at the Airport and use UTaxi with no other problems.
3. For some devices GG taxi does not allow you to add your credit card, so you can bring some cash with you and exchange it at the airport
Internet connection & phone number:
There is a free public Wi-Fi at the airport (but it’s obviously not safe for your data), so you can use taxi apps without buying an Armenian SIM-card. But be prepared to add your phone number for verification in the app.
You can buy a SIM card at the airport for a reasonable price
Paying by the card for taxi:
1. If you have Russian Mastercard/Visa, use Yandex Taxi, the same app as you use in RF. Any payment by these cards works fine. GG taxi or UTaxi will work with most Mir cards.
2. If you have American/European Mastercard/Visa - use any of the recommended apps: Yandex Taxi, GG taxi or UTaxi.
Location inaccuracy:
Google Maps app is only 90% reliable in Armenia, even in Yerevan. In comparison to that, Yandex maps are much more advanced. And it is generally advised sticking to addresses on the main streets
Exploring the city:
The taxi is the easiest way to explore the city, but there are metro and buses available, but you need Armenian cash for it
