Preschool (Ages 3 - 5)
The Preschool program consists of four classrooms all housed at Jefferson Elementary School that support our youngest students who age in at 3 years old. The program is supported by a speech/language therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist and behaviorist who all provide integrated and consultative support to the students, families and staff within the program. This collaborative team approach is critical in supporting the whole child as they work on developing beginning communication, social and academic skills. The needs of the students in each of the classrooms vary and are supported through increased intensity of supports based on each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
LLD (Grades K-6)
The LLD programs based at Franklin Elementary School and Lincoln Roosevelt School support students of varying skill and ability levels, addressing academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs within a smaller classroom environment. The program utilizes a multi-sensory approach to learning, focusing on the development of foundational academic skills in support of the NJSLA standards. For reading instruction, the Orton-Gillingham based program, Sonday is used specifically to address decoding and reading fluency skills. The lessons and skills taught within the program are then integrated into other academic areas to ensure students are able to apply them appropriately.
Tides (Age 3 - Grade 12)
The TIDES program is guided by the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis under the direction of district Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA). TIDES offers a low student to teacher ratio, allowing for discrete trial instruction, individualized classroom programming, personalized and classroom-wide behavior modification programs, and integrated speech, occupational and physical therapies. Emphasis is placed on social and emotional development, strengthening communication skills, and developing independent learners in all environments. Community based instruction opportunities are provided where appropriate and mainstreaming opportunities are possible but not required.
REACH (Grades K-6)
The REACH programs are based at Kennedy Elementary and Lincoln Roosevelt School for students requiring specialized behavioral supports in the public school setting. In addition to academics, students focus on developing appropriate behavioral, emotional, and social skills in the school environment and community with support from a district BCBA, School Social Worker and/or School Psychologist. Intensive school-based counseling is provided in individual and group settings depending on student needs. The behaviorist is available to consult with school staff and families to develop systems of supports to address maladaptive behaviors students may be exhibiting by replacing them with more socially appropriate ones. Students who have met success in the REACH classroom and have generalized the skills they have learned can apply those skills in a general education class with varying levels of support.
Delta (Grades 7-12)
Similar to the REACH program, Delta is a program for students who exhibit the need for additional emotional, behavioral and social support in the public school setting. The program consists of a small structured classroom supported by teacher(s), paraprofessional support, a BCBA, and a counselor. A classroom-wide behavior management system working towards both weekly and monthly goals is utilized. In addition to core subject areas, various electives are offered within the program. General education classes outside of the Delta program are accessible as students demonstrate increased ability to monitor their own behavior and compensate for their individual areas of weakness. Students placed in general education classes continue to benefit from the support of Delta program staff through counseling and consultation with the general education classroom teachers.
OPUS (Grades 9-12)
The OPUS program is designed for students with social and/or emotional difficulties that interfere with positive, successful school experiences. The program offers specialized interventions for (1) school avoidance/refusal; (2) anxiety, depression, or related social-emotional difficulties; and (3) difficulty with peer relations, socialization, self-esteem. The program offers a wide range of supports and services and includes a strong community component designed to foster a sense of belonging and mutual support among students. A skills-based approach is used within the program to facilitate social-emotional growth and academic success. Students are expected to participate in weekly individual and group counseling. The program also offers core academic classes, electives and modified Physical Education. Participation in the program varies for each student, ranging from partial or full school day.
Vista (Grades 6-12)
The Vista program is designed for students who have multiple disabilities, including those students with physical and cognitive impairments. Emphasis is placed on functional academics and social skills that are unique to the students' individual needs. The Vista home base includes a classroom area for direct instruction as well as a kitchen area where students receive and practice functional life skills. A therapy area including OT/PT equipment is available in the classroom environment. Being located in a public school setting, students in the Vista program are able to take advantage of a wide range of social and academic opportunities available outside of the classroom to the maximum extent possible. The Vista program emphasizes community based instruction and transition planning with support from a transition coordinator at the high school.
Success (Age 18-21)
The Success program is geared to our oldest students who require more than the typical 4 years of high school to work on post-secondary goals such as career exploration, community navigation, functional life and communication skills. This program includes Structured Learning Experiences for young adults that allow them to apply skills learned within the building out in the community at various job sites with support from a classroom teacher, transition coordinator, and job coaches. The program components and goals are geared towards each student's IEP driven, post-secondary goals and objectives.
Sage Thrive In-District Counseling (Grades 5-12)
Sage Thrive Counseling services are available to general education and special education students who are experiencing emotional difficulties that impact their ability to be successful in school. Referrals for Sage Thrive services often come from guidance counselors, case managers and/or administrators. If you feel like your child would benefit from these services, please reach out to your child's guidance counselor.
