Varsity Head Coach 2011-2014, 2017-present
Valerie Varela returns to her Alma Mater and begins her Fourth year with the Rowland Women’s Volleyball Program as the Head Coach. Last season marked the most successful season Rowland High School Volleyball has ever had. After qualifying for the CIF SS playoffs, her team reached the Semi Finals round and qualified for the CA Volleyball State Tournament.
While playing for Rowland Varela received All-League accolades on two of her three years on varsity and played in two CIF postseason matches. In addition to volleyball, Varela also lettered in basketball her sophomore year, and in softball her freshman year. After high school Coach Varela continued her athletic career at Mt. SAC where she played for Coaches Maria Dennis and Kenji Mukai during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. There she helped lead the team to two consecutive Regional Play-Off appearances and received All-Conference accolades as a freshman and sophomore.
After finishing her A.A, Varela continued being a part of the Mt. SAC volleyball family as an Assistant Coach to Maria Dennis for the 2007 - 2010 seasons. While coaching at Mt. SAC she also coached club volleyball for San Gabriel Elite Volleyball Club and Top Gun Volleyball Club. While coaching, she continued her education at California State University at Fullerton, where she received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Her passion for coaching turned into a great love for teaching, and in turn led to her earning her physical education credential at Cal Poly Pomona. She recently finished her masters in education specializing in instruction and curriculum.

Angeli Caringal graduated from Rowland High School in 2014 and played for the volleyball team all four years. Her varsity coach at the time was Coach Valerie Valera. During her last two years at Rowland High School, Caringal coached middle school volleyball for Ybarra Academy. While playing for Rowland, Caringal received Hacienda Five Scholar Athlete Award her senior year and played in one CIF postseason match. She continued to play intramural volleyball while attending University of California, Irvine for her undergrad where she majored in Political Science and Korean.
While attending college, Caringal would return to Rowland High School in the summers to help coach incoming freshman and varsity teams. In addition, she would help run the volleyball summer camp for elementary and middle school students. Her joy for coaching and seeing student athletes thrive have inspired her to become a teacher. Currently, Caringal is enrolled in a single-subject credential and masters program at National University in hopes to become a high school physics teacher.
