Rowan Brighton Brown (they/them) is a writer of middle grade and young adult fiction. They hold a B.A. in English from Smith College and are currently pursuing further scientific studies in graduate school. They were selected as a mentor for the Write Team Mentorship Program and SmoochPit in 2024.
Rowan is a proud graduate of South Carolina public schools and studied at the Fine Arts Center and South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities as a young person. While there, they were named a National Youngarts Winner in nonfiction, and received the South Carolina Young Writers Award, the Bluefire Award for Short Fiction, and The Kay Snow Award for Nonfiction. They received additional training at the Kenyon Young Writers program and further recognition from Scholastic Art and Writing, Atlantic Art and Essay, Ringling Writers of the Future, and the Rattle Young Poets Anthology among others.
Their novel No Finer Than I Am was a winner of the 2023 PitchMe mentorship. In 2024, their book White Trash Witchcraft was awarded a Youngarts Creativity Grant that was used to research and reside at the Azule Artist’s Retreat.
