Scientific collaboration networks: their formation, structure and their effects on invention
In my most recent research work, I have been interested in social networks, and in particular in research collaboration networks: How do they form? What are their architectures? How do they affect individual behavior and performance? As a continuation of this work on networks, I have also studied the forms of collaboration between companies and universities. I'm currently investigating the effects of public research policies on academic invention, which is often a marker of such university-industry links.
Behaviors and gender differences in science
Analyzing the researchers' strategies led me to study how different psychological factors can influence their decisions. I am convinced that a better understanding of the intrinsic motivations of researchers, their preferences and how they affect their individual decisions could allow us to better understand, at an aggregate level, the evolution of scientific knowledge. However, the behavioral approach has been relatively underdeveloped in the economics of science and innovation. My current research in this topic brings together different projects centered on the study of the relationship between the personality of researchers and professors and their professional behaviors, such as their choice of scientific problems or their choice of collaboration. I am coordinating two ongoing research projects that focus specifically on the analysis of the sources of gender inequalities in science. These projects are empirical, experimental and interdisciplinary (economics - psychology - sociology).
